🍂 Fall Is Here — And We're Getting Ready!

The leaves are changing, the temperatures are dropping, and the Camillus Highway Department is shifting gears once again!

​

With summer projects behind us, our crews are busy collecting leaves, maintaining drainage systems, and preparing our equipment for another Central New York winter.

​

There's always something happening at Highway, and fall is one of our busiest times of year! (just like the other 3)

🍁 Leaf Pickup Is Underway!

​

It's that time of year again! Our crews are making their way through neighborhoods collecting the colorful reminders of fall.

​

With thousands of trees throughout Camillus, leaf collection is a big job, and we appreciate everyone's patience as our crews work their way around town.

​

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please do NOT put leaves in the street! This is a safety issue.

​

Leaf piles should be placed along the edge of your lawn, NOT in the roadway. Leaves in the street can block storm drains, cause localized flooding, create slippery driving conditions, and interfere with traffic.

​

Please keep piles free of branches, rocks, and other debris. A little cooperation helps our crews collect leaves more efficiently and keeps our neighborhoods safer.

​

And remember, last year's first snowfall arrived on November 8! Mother Nature doesn't always wait for us to finish collecting leaves, so getting them out early makes a big difference.

🚧 Road Projects — That's a Wrap!

​

Our summer road paving and striping projects are complete!

​

Throughout the season, our crews worked to improve town roads, address pavement concerns, and make our streets safer and smoother for everyone.

​

While our major road projects are finished for the year, routine maintenance and emergency repairs remain part of our daily responsibilities.

​

We're already looking ahead and evaluating priorities for next year's road improvement program.

​

💧 Keeping the Water Flowing

​

Fall rains and falling leaves can create challenges for our drainage systems.

​

Our crews continue inspecting, cleaning, and repairing catch basins and drainage structures throughout town. We're also evaluating areas affected by September's unusually heavy rainfall and localized flooding.

​

You can help! Keeping leaves and debris away from storm drains is one of the easiest ways residents can help prevent neighborhood flooding.

​

❄️ Winter Is Coming — Ready or Not!

​

It might seem early to be thinking about snow, but our Highway Department knows better!

​

Our mechanics and crews are already inspecting plow trucks, servicing equipment, preparing salt spreaders, and making sure we're ready when winter arrives. You may even see a plow truck driving around, that's just us testing out the equipment. Wave and say "Hi".

​

Last year's early snowfall on November 8 was a good reminder that winter doesn't follow our schedule!

After an especially demanding winter last season, we're putting that experience to work as we prepare for whatever this year brings.

Behind every plowed road, cleared storm drain, repaired street, and collected leaf pile is a team of dedicated people who take tremendous pride in serving Camillus.

​

Our Highway Department employees are truly an amazing group. They work through freezing temperatures, summer heat, early mornings, long nights, and challenging conditions that most people never see.

​

What makes this team special isn't just their skill and experience. It's their willingness to help one another, solve problems, and step up when our community needs them.

From our mechanics and equipment operators to our laborers, foremen, and office staff, every person plays an important role in keeping this department running.

I'm incredibly proud of the people who make up the Camillus Highway Department. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment to our residents deserve recognition and appreciation.
