More Than Plowing: The People Keeping Camillus Moving
Let's talk about this winter!

This winter season is shaping up to be a record-breaking one for the Town of Camillus.
A combination of recurring polar vortex events and persistent lake-effect snow has kept Highway Department crews extremely busy. Despite the challenging conditions, our team has remained focused on one priority: keeping Camillus roads and sidewalks safe and passable for residents.
Nearly everyone in the department serves as a snowplow driver, and crews are routinely called in as early as 2:00 a.m. to begin plowing roadways, clearing sidewalks, and preparing travel routes before the morning commute. In addition to long hours on the road, staff are also responsible for maintaining, repairing, and cleaning equipment—often in the same shifts—to ensure plows, loaders, and trucks are ready to go back out whenever conditions change.
We have also been incredibly grateful for the support shown by our community. Residents have stopped by with cookies, pizza, and other thoughtful gestures to thank our drivers for their hard work. These acts of kindness mean a great deal to the crews and are a wonderful reminder of the strong sense of community here in Camillus.
The Highway Department sincerely appreciates both the tireless efforts of our staff and the continued patience and encouragement from our residents during this demanding winter season.
