More Than Paving: The People Keeping Camillus Moving
Spring Transition

🌷 Spring Update from the Highway Department
Spring is finally here—at least we hope so.
We still have a few frosty nights in the forecast, but our crews are already hard at work transitioning into the spring season.
🍃 Leaf & Brush Pickup Underway
We are currently out in the community collecting leaves and brush from residential curbs.
Much of what we’re picking up now dates back to last fall, when early snowfall covered leaf piles before they could be collected. We’re working to get fully caught up as quickly as possible.
🚧 Road Conditions & Planning Ahead
This winter has taken a toll on many of our roads.
Frost heaves have caused cracking and surface damage, allowing water to penetrate beneath the pavement and accelerate deterioration. Our team is actively assessing these conditions and prioritizing repairs.
At the same time, we are developing paving schedules for both this year and next to ensure we maintain and improve the long-term health of our roadways.
🛠️ Repairs: Potholes & Lawn Damage
Spring thaw brings an increase in potholes across the town. Our crews are actively identifying and repairing problem areas as quickly as possible. Temporary repairs may be necessary until asphalt plants reopen and permanent fixes can be completed.
Residents may also notice lawn damage near the roadside following winter operations. Snow removal and plowing can sometimes impact the edges of lawns, especially during heavy snowfall seasons. Please know that we document and address these areas, and repairs will be made as conditions allow later in the spring.
If you would like to report a pothole or roadside concern, please contact the Highway Department so we can include it in our work schedule.
🔨 Major Projects This Year
In addition to seasonal work, we have several key projects planned:
-
Grinding the town’s brush pile into reusable mulch
-
Auctioning surplus and scrap vehicles
